Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday forecast the formation of a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal around July 19 resulting in heavy to very heavy rain in several parts of Odisha.
The IMD has said in its daily weather bulletin that a cyclonic circulation may form over the northwest Bay of Bengal around July 16 and the system is likely to turn into a low pressure around July 19.
“A low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining area around July 19 and it may intensify into a depression in the next 48 hours. Subsequently, it is likely to move west-northwestward towards central India across Odisha and Chhattisgarh.”
The MeT office has also forecasted isolated heavy rainfall may occur in Odisha during the next five days and heavy to very heavy rain from July 19. It has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain at one or two places in Nuapada, Bargarh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Boudh, Deogarh, and Keonjhar on July 14, while remaining parts of the state are likely to experience light to moderate rain.
Heavy rain may lash one or two places in Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, and Puri some places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore on July 16.
