Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area is likely to form over southwest Bay of Bengal around May 22, 2024. It is likely to move initially northeastwards and concentrate into a depression over central parts of the Bay of Bengal by morning of May 24, 2024, informed India Meteorological Department on Monday.
“Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely over central Bay of Bengal from 23rd morning. It would extend to adjoining areas of North Bay of Bengal from 24th May, with increase in wind speed of 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph. Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough over central Bay of Bengal from 23rd May and over North Bay of Bengal from 24th May, 2024 onwards” read the release issued by IMD.
Keeping the rough sea conditions in mind, the weather office has advised fishermen not to venture into the central Bay of Bengal May 23 and North Bay of Bengal from May 24 onwards. Fishermen who were out at sea are advised to return to the coast before May 23.
Under the impact of low pressure, light to moderate rainfall at many places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over the districts of north Odisha on May 24 and May 25.
Going by the latest prediction, the maximum temperature(day temperature) is likely to gradually rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius during the next three to four days at many places over the districts of Odisha.
Also, IMD has predicted light to moderate rain with thundershowers for the next six days beginning from May 21.
Going by day 1 (May 21) prediction, light to moderate rain with thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Coastal Odisha including Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nawarangpur, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul and dry weather very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.
As per day 2 (May 22) prediction, light to moderate rain with thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal and dry weather very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.
“Light to moderate rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of south Odisha, north coastal Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal and dry weather very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha”, read the day-3 (May 23) prediction of IMD.
IMD’s day 4 (May 24) says, light to moderate rain with thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of north Odisha, south coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha.
“Light to moderate rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of coastal Odisha,Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal and at a few places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Boudh and at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha”, read the prediction of day-4 (May 25) of IMD.
“Light to moderate rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of North Odisha, South Coastal Odisha and at a few places over the districts of Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal and at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha. Light to moderate rain with thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of North Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of South Odisha”, says IMD.
