Bhubaneswar: The low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal (BoB) is expected to strengthen further in the coming hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated.
According to the latest update, the system is likely to intensify into a well-defined low pressure within the next 12 hours. It is then expected to further strengthen and turn into a depression over the subsequent 24 hours. The system is moving in a north-westward direction and is likely to cross the Bangladesh-West Bengal coast.
The IMD has advised people in the coastal regions of Odisha, West Bengal, Bangladesh and neighbouring areas to remain alert and monitor official weather updates closely.
Going by today’s forecast issued by the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, most places in the state are likely to receive rain. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible at one or two places in Anugola and Kendujhar districts, for which an orange warning has been issued.
Also, a yellow warning has also been issued for isolated places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sundargada, Jharsuguda, Bargada, Sambalpur, Deogada, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Puri, and Khordha districts due to the likelihood of heavy rainfall.
