Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal, said weather scientist Umashankar Dash.
According to Dash, the low-pressure area formed over the south Myanmar coast today due to the influence of an active cyclonic circulation over central Thailand. The associated circulation has extended up to a height of 9.4 km in the atmosphere. It is likely to enter the North Andaman Sea and the adjoining Irrawaddy region of Myanmar during the next 24 hours.
Thereafter, it is likely to move north-northwestwards along the Myanmar-Bangladesh coast towards the northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh during the next two days.
