Mahanadi Flood Water Flow Declines Slightly At Munduli

Cuttack: The flood water flow situation in the Mahanadi river system has shown a slight decline at Munduli in Cuttack, officials said on Wednesday.

According to data from the Water Resources Department, flood water was flowing at 8 lakh 88 thousand cusecs at Munduli at 10 pm last night. As of now, the flow has reduced to 8 lakh 65 thousand 474 cusecs per second. The water is currently being discharged through 10 gates at Munduli barrage.

Officials attributed the change to reduced inflow from the upper catchment areas.

“Due to the low flood water flow at the upper catchment, the flood water flow situation has changed near Munduli,” an official said.

At Naraj Barrage, 4 lakh 46 thousand 530 cusecs of flood water is flowing, while at Jobra in Cuttack, the discharge stands at 4 lakh 6 thousand cusecs. The Water Resources Department said the situation is being closely monitored and gates are being regulated based on inflow from upstream dams and rainfall in the catchment areas.

District administrations in Cuttack and downstream areas have been asked to remain alert despite the marginal drop in discharge.
