Malkangiri: In view of the approaching Cyclone Montha, the Malkangiri Forest Division has ramped up its preparedness measures to ensure swift response and public safety. A division-level review meeting on cyclone readiness was chaired by the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Malkangiri, through video conferencing with all Range Officers.

As part of the preparedness plan, 20 response teams have been formed and deployed across critical and vulnerable areas of the division. Each team has been equipped with essential tools and safety gear to tackle emergencies arising from the cyclone’s impact.

A 24×7 control room has been established for continuous monitoring and coordination, while a Rapid Response Team (RRT) with a Rakshak vehicle and other necessary equipment has been stationed at the divisional headquarters to respond swiftly to any situation.

In anticipation of wildlife-related emergencies, a trained snake rescuer team has also been mobilized to handle snakebite incidents and rescue operations.

All field staff have been instructed to remain at their respective headquarters, and sanctioned leaves have been cancelled, except in genuine emergencies. Additionally, eco-park in-charges have been directed to ensure visitor safety and take precautionary measures to prevent mishaps.

The Division is maintaining close coordination with the District Administration and other line departments to ensure effective disaster management and timely response.

With these proactive measures in place, the Malkangiri Forest Division has reaffirmed its readiness to mitigate the potential impact of Cyclone Montha and safeguard both people and wildlife.
