Sambalpur: The Cyber Police in Sambalpur have arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly uploading videos containing obscene and abusive language on a social media platform.
The accused, identified as Sadananda Bardhan of Bhalupali under Ainthapali police limits, was apprehended after a video he posted on Instagram went viral, sparking public outrage.
According to the police, during routine online surveillance on October 15, the cyber team detected a video featuring derogatory and sexually explicit content aimed at demeaning women and violating standards of public decency. Further investigation revealed that Bardhan had created a fake Instagram account to post the offensive material.
Bardhan has been booked under Sections 75, 79, and 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 67 and 67(A) of the Information Technology (IT) Act. Police have also seized a car and two mobile phones from his possession.
While some reports suggested that the accused had intended to draw attention to the poor condition of roads in his locality, he allegedly used abusive and vulgar language in the process, violating cyber laws.
Sambalpur Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo said, “We have a dedicated Cyber Team to monitor activity across social media platforms such as X (Twitter), WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Strict action will be taken against anyone posting derogatory or obscene content online.”
