Cuttack: Commissionerate Police-Cuttack on Friday arrested one Raja Karan alias Niman Karan of Andarpur under Madhupatana police station limits for allegedly duping lakhs of rupees from several persons to deliver houses to them inside Andarpur Integrated Housing & Slum Development Project.
Police have seized cash amounting to Rs 14.90 lakh and some important documents from Raja Karan’s possession police said.
“Raja Karan has duped lakhs of rupees from several people to deliver houses to them in Andarpur Integrated Housing and Slum Development Project,” informed ACP Cuttack Zone-VI Amarendra Panda.
He added that accused Raja Karan had even illegally kept 33 people inside the project by providing them with forged documents (xerox copies) of an affidavit made before a Notary.
“When these people realized that they have been duped and provided with forged documents which no way gave them ownership of the houses, they vacated those and lodged complaints at Madhupatana and Jagatpur police stations,” the ACP stated.
Panda said that in this connection three cases have been registered under the Commissionerate Police-Cuttack against Raja Karan. While two cases have been registered at Madhupatana police station, one has been registered at Jagatpur police station, he added.
“Since sufficient evidence has been established against Raja Karan for having duped lakhs of rupees from several persons and kept them in houses by providing them with forged documents we arrested him yesterday and will be forwarding him to court today,” the ACP stated.
The ACP informed that following searches at Raja Karan’s house and office room at Andarpur Integrated Housing & Slum Development Project police have seized Rs 14.90 lakh in cash and some documents.
Raja Karan had two cases against him earlier and with the addition of these three cases he has a total of five cases against him, the ACP added.
According to the police, the scam came to light after one Samir Pal of Khalagaon under Balikuda police limits in Jagatsinghpur district reported in writing at the Madhupatana police station that he was a fridge and AC mechanic and he after coming in contact with Raja Karan of Andarpur was told by the latter about allotment of house inside Andarpur Integrated Housing & Slum Development Project.
Samir claimed that Raja Karan showed him the house and told him to give money for the allotment of the house following which he gave him cash of Rs 2.30 lakh on different dates.
Samir alleged that Raja Karan made an agreement before a Notary and handed him a xerox copy but Raja Karan neither delivered him the house nor returned his money.
Police found that in a similar manner Raja Karan has taken money from about 40 persons to hand over houses.
