Rourkela: The Additional District Judge of Rourkela has sentenced a person to life imprisonment for murdering his neighbour.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict identified as Bharat Baidak for the murder of Jitendra Munda.
According to the petition, the incident occurred on December 11, 2020, at Jhariaotoli under Bisra police station limits, where Jitendra was hacked to death by Bharat following a heated argument.
As per report on the fateful day, Jitendra’s wife Shanti and second wife Karmi had left for a wedding ceremony earlier, followed by Jitendra. A dispute arose when Bharat objected to Jitendra parking his bike in front of his house.
In a fit of rage, Bharat attacked Jitendra with a sickle, inflicting serious injuries on his head. Jitendra’s 8-year-old son informed Shanti and Karmi, who rushed to the spot and took Jitendra to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
Shanti lodged a complaint with the Bisra police station on December 12, 2020, and Bharat was arrested and charged with murder. The government lawyer, Kailash Pradhan, prosecuted the case.
Judge Manoj Kumar delivered the verdict based on the testimony of 12 witnesses, 19 documents, and the arguments presented by the government lawyer.
The court sentenced Bharat to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000, which will be followed by an additional three months of imprisonment if not paid.
