Bhubaneswar: The cyber wing of the State Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested a man for allegedly publishing and circulating an AI-generated and morphed obscene video targeting Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on social media.
The accused has been identified as Kishore Kausalya of Keutaguda Station Sahi under Chandili Police Station in Rayagada district, is employed with a construction company in Tikri.
According to an official press release, the arrest followed a complaint by a citizen who came across a doctored video on Facebook allegedly portraying the Chief Minister in a derogatory manner. The complainant stated that the video was deliberately made viral with the intent to malign the Chief Minister’s image and also demean the dignity of a woman.
Following a preliminary inquiry, an FIR was registered. The Crime Branch sought assistance from Meta Platforms for removal of the objectionable content, which was promptly taken down. Technical analysis led investigators to the accused’s digital footprint in Rayagada district.
Acting on the findings, a Crime Branch team apprehended Kausalya from Rayagada.
The accused has been booked under Sections 78, 79, 294, 296, 336(2), 336(4), 340(2), and 356(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 66-C, 67, and 67-A of the IT Act, 2000, and Section 3 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986. He was produced before the Court of SDJM, Bhubaneswar.
The Crime Branch has stated that stringent action will be taken against those misusing AI and digital platforms to spread defamatory or obscene content. The public has been urged to exercise caution while posting or sharing content online.
