Jeypore: A man involved in the loot of multiple temples in and outside Odisha was arrested by Koraput police from Nayagarh.
The notorious looter identified as Ghanashyam Das had looted many famous temples from across the country.
Das had allegedly looted valuable ornaments and cash of Rs 21,000 from Kanyaka Parameswari temple at Maharanipeta in Jeypore.
The temple authorities filed a complaint at the Town police station in Jeypore, based on which police registered a case and started an investigation.
During the course of investigation, police carried out raids at different places and nabbed him.
Das is a resident of Itamati in Nayagarh district had looted over 47 temples across India. Out of 47 loot scases, he was involved in the loot of 24 temples of Andhra Pradesh, 14 of Odisha, and nine of Karnataka, Jeypore SDPO Ankit Kumar Verma said.
The SDPO informed that Das used to target only temples. At the age of 18, he first committed the crime by looting the famous Kanakdurga temple of Vijaywada in Andhra Pradesh.
He is involved in the loot of various temples in Andhra, Kerala, Karnataka, Odisha.
