Bhubaneswar: A married person has been arrested by the Chandrashekharpur police for duping multiple young women on matrimonial site in Bhubaneswar.

The accused, identified as Diptiraj Patnaik used to advertise on matrimonial sites, posing as a wealthy individual, and cheat women out of lakhs of rupees.

According to the police, Patnaik’s modus operandi involved targeting vulnerable women on matrimonial sites. He would promise marriage, gain their trust, and then extort money from them. One of his victims, a young woman from Dhenkanal, came forward and filed a complaint against Patnaik.

The victim alleged that she met Patnaik on a matrimonial site in December and got engaged to him. However, she soon discovered that Patnaik was already married with three children. Despite this, Patnaik continued to deceive her, taking lakhs of rupees from her on the pretext of marriage.

The police investigation revealed that Patnaik had a history of fraudulent activities, including land scams. Several criminal cases were pending against him.

Patnaik was arrested and produced in court. The police are investigating further to identify other victims of his scams.
