Bhubaneswar: In a major burglary, unidentified miscreants allegedly decamped with cash, gold and silver ornaments, branded wristwatches, and other valuables worth around Rs 20 lakh from a house at Jamukoli under the Airfield Police Station limits in Bhubaneswar late Monday night.
The burglary took place at the residence of Siva Shankar Behera while he and his family members were asleep.
According to reports, Behera lodged a complaint at the Airfield Police Station on Tuesday morning. Acting on the complaint, a police team rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. A scientific team also visited the house to collect forensic evidence.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the miscreants broke open the main door and forced open almirahs in different rooms before fleeing with the valuables. The family came to know about the theft only after waking up on Tuesday morning.
Police have started examining CCTV footage from the locality to identify the culprits and trace their movements. Efforts are underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and recover the stolen property.
