Bhubaneswar: The newly appointed Director General of Police (DGP) of Odisha YB Khurania visited Jagannath Temple on Saturday, a day after taking charge of his new role.
Khurania, a 1990-batch IPS officer, was welcomed by Puri Superintendent of Police and other senior police officials at the Lions’ Gate of the temple.
As per reports, Khurania visited the 12th-century shrine along with his family members and sought the blessing of Lord Jagannath. After offering prayers to the sibling deities, Khurania is reported to have discussed security and crowd management arrangements with temple authorities.
After offering prayers at the Jagannath Temple, Khurania expressed his gratitude and devotion, saying, “During my central deputation, I often reminisced about Lord Jagannath. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to serve the Lord and the people of Odisha once again. We will take all necessary measures to enhance the security of the temple and ensure a safe and smooth experience for devotees visiting the shrine.”
It is pertinent to note that Khurania was repatriated to Odisha from his central deputation on July 26, and the Odisha government appointed Khurania as the state’s new DGP on August 16.
“The most important duty for me, as the head of Odisha Police, and my police force is to provide better police service to the people of Odisha. As the Chief Minister has appealed to the police personnel posted at police stations to behave well with the visitors, all steps will be taken in this regard,” he said after assuming the charge.
