Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heatwave warnings for several parts of Odisha over the next five days, with Red Warning issued for western districts till May 27.
Day-wise Warning Details:
Day-1 & Day-2 (May 25 & May 26): Red warning has been issued for Sambalpur, Balangir, and Boudh districts, indicating heatwave and warm night conditions are very likely at isolated places. Orange alert has been issued for Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Kalahandi, and Nuapada districts.
Additionally, heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated places over the districts of Kandhamal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangapur. These districts have been issued yellow warning.
Day-3 (May 27): Red warning continues for Sambalpur, Balangir, and Boudh, while Orange alert remains in place for Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Kalahandi, and Nuapada.
“Heat wave condition is very likely to prevail at isolated places over the districts of Kandhamal and Bargarh. Hot and humid conditions very likely to prevail at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangapur”, read the IMD’s prediction for May 27. The IMD has issued yellow warning to these districts.
Day-4 (May 28): The intensity is expected to reduce slightly. Orange alert has been issued for Sambalpur, Boudh, and Balangir, while Yellow warning has been issued for Sonepur, Nuapada, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Bargarh.
That apart, hot and humid conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Rayagada. These districts are under yellow alert.
Day-5 (May 29): yellow warning will continue for Sambalpur, Boudh, Balangir, Sonepur, and Jharsuguda districts. That apart, hHot and humid conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jajpur, Nayagarh.
The IMD has advised people, especially vulnerable groups such as children, elderly persons, and those with pre-existing health conditions, to avoid exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours (11 am to 3 pm), stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions.
