Bhubaneswar: The nomination of Congress candidate from Niali Assembly constituency was rejected as his name was not included in the voters’ list.
The Congress had fielded Jyoti Ranjan Mallick from Niali. Mallick had filed his nomination paper in Cuttack collectorate two days ago amid a mega political rally. During scrutiny, his nomination was rejected.
Mallik, however, dubbed it as a political gimmick of the ruling party.
He was the sarpnach of Nuagaan panchayat earlier in 2022.
“I was called by the election officials for scrutiny. During the time, I was told that my nomination was rejected as my name was not mentioned in the voter list,” Mallik said.
“I was elected as a sarpanch in 2022. If my name is not in the voter list, how did I cecome a sarpanch,” he asked.
He hit out at BJD local leader and MLA who conspired against him to keep him away from the election.
Meanwhile, Jyotiranjan’s mother has filed nominations after his candidature was rejected. He will campaign for his mother.
On the other hand, BJD justified the rejection of his nomination. The election officers can clarify the reason of cancellation of his nomination, a local BJD leader said.
