Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday extended heartfelt congratulations to the people of Odisha on the 90th anniversary of Odia cinema, describing it as a ‘golden moment’ in the state’s cultural history.

In a post on social media, CM Majhi highlighted the historic significance of April 28, 1936, when the first Odia film ‘Sita Bibaha’ was released, marking the beginning of Odia cinema’s long and inspiring journey.

“Today marks a golden moment in the history of Odisha’s cultural pride and glorious identity. On this day in 1936, with the release of the first Odia film ‘Sita Bibaha,’ our cinematic journey of triumph began,” the Chief Minister wrote.

He acknowledged the struggles and achievements of Odia cinema, saying it has overcome numerous obstacles to establish a distinct identity for Odia language, art, and traditions on the global stage.

CM Majhi emphasized that Odia cinema is not just a source of entertainment but a powerful reflection of Odia society and a medium for cultural awakening.

Paying rich tributes to the pioneers of the industry, the Chief Minister said: “I pay respectful tribute to the unparalleled contributions of all the actors, actresses, directors, producers, and behind-the-scenes artisans who have built this rich tradition.”

He also assured full support from the state government, stating that efforts will be made to elevate Odia cinema to new heights using modern technology and creativity while working towards gaining global recognition for the industry.

Concluding his message, CM Majhi extended warm greetings to the people of Odisha, film lovers, and artists on this historic occasion.
