Puri: Joy turned into mourning in a matter of moments as a wedding celebration in Puri was overshadowed by a horrific accident.
A 19-year-old youth lost his life after an electric cracker exploded during his sister’s wedding last night. The deceased has been identified as Sanu Malik, a resident of Mangalaghat Paik Sahi in Puri town. Sanu worked as a horse rider on Puri beach to earn his livelihood. He had recently got married, and his wife Subhadra is six months pregnant. The family was celebrating his sister’s wedding when the tragic incident occurred at a wedding hall in Khandiabandh.
According to reports, the explosion took place last night while Sanu was apparently handling electric crackers for the celebrations. His hands were completely burnt in the blast. He was rushed first to the district headquarters hospital in critical condition and then shifted to a private hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Family members said Sanu had gone to the wedding venue to help and earn some extra money for his sister’s wedding. He had spoken to his wife Subhadra at around 10:30 pm on the previous night. The family received the shocking news early this morning that Sanu’s body was at the Puri hospital.
A pall of gloom has now descended over the family. Sanu’s wife and other relatives reached the hospital after getting the news. While Sanu’s father has alleged that someone may have killed his son, his wife expressed shock that no one had informed her directly about the incident. The Sadar Police Station has reached the hospital and initiated an investigation into the matter. Police are examining whether it was a pure accident or if there was any negligence or foul play involved.
This heartbreaking incident has once again raised serious questions about safety arrangements and the use of electric crackers during weddings and public functions. Many locals have expressed concern over the lack of proper precautions at such events.
The young couple had been living in a rented house at Mashani Chandi Sahi in Puri. Sanu’s sudden death has left his pregnant wife and the entire family devastated at a time when they were supposed to be celebrating.
