Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of Wildlife Week, observed annually from October 2 to 8, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday called upon citizens to take collective responsibility for the protection and conservation of the state’s rich wildlife and natural habitats.
In a message shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister highlighted Odisha’s rich biodiversity.
“From the majestic black tigers of Similipal to the Irrawaddy dolphins of Chilika, our state is blessed with nature’s priceless gifts. These natural treasures serve as sanctuaries for many rare species of wildlife,” he said.
CM Majhi further noted the annual mass nesting of Olive Ridley turtles along Odisha’s coast and the arrival of migratory birds to various wetlands during winter as reminders of the state’s rich ecological heritage. “These phenomena reinforce our commitment to protecting and conserving wildlife,” he added.
Over the past few years, the government has implemented numerous initiatives aimed at ensuring wildlife safety. Priority has been given to forest protection, habitat improvement, and raising public awareness. Various programs have been organized to encourage active participation from citizens in wildlife conservation efforts.
“Protecting our forests, water bodies, and wildlife is not the sole responsibility of the government but a collective duty,” the Chief Minister said. He called upon all citizens to step forward and take responsibility for wildlife protection. “By safeguarding our forests and wildlife, we will build a healthy, beautiful, and green Odisha,” he concluded.
