Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan on Tuesday took a holy dip in the Baitarani river at Patana in Keonjhar district on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti.
As per reports, the Chief Minister’s visit is part of his three-day tour of Keonjhar district, which began today. After arriving at the Raisuan airstrip, Majhi proceeded to Patana, where he took the holy dip as part of the Makar Buda ritual. He then visited the ancient Anandeswar temple and offered prayers.
Majhi’s itinerary for the day also includes a visit to the Jyotirlinga and Maa Tarini temples. The Chief Minister is scheduled to return to Bhubaneswar on January 17.
Tight security arrangements have been made along the banks of the Baitarani River for Odisha Chief Minister Majhi’s visit. A large police force and fire department personnel have been deployed for the cause. Additionally, a huge crowd gathered to catch a glimpse of the Chief Minister.
Makar Sankranti is a significant festival in Odisha, marking the beginning of the sun’s journey towards the northern hemisphere. The festival is celebrated with great fervour across the state, with traditional rituals and ceremonies being performed to mark the occasion.
