Mayurbhanj: In a significant achievement, Forest Personnel seized more than 450 country-made guns from different areas of Similipal sanctuary in Mayurbhanj district in the last three years, Odisha Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) Susanta Nanda told the media persons in Baripada on Sunday.
The seized illegal arms and ammunition will be destroyed gradually in the coming days, the PCCF added.
The PCCF, who is on a two-day visit to Mayurbhanj, also attended a special programme organised by the Similipal Tiger Project Foundation.
On the occasion, he flagged-off an awareness vehicle and requested the local people to hand over all illegal guns, if they had any, at Forest Department offices or the police stations to avoid stringent actions. The Forest Department wants to make Similipal a weapon-free region, he added.
