Bhubaneswar: Odisha has secured recognition for 11 Post-Diploma DNB seats across three government medical colleges, in a move expected to strengthen specialist medical manpower and expand access to quality healthcare in the state.
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), New Delhi, has accorded recognition to the 11 seats across five broad specialities—Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, T.B. and Chest Diseases, and Anaesthesiology.
The recognised seats have been approved at Shree Jagannath Medical College and Hospital in Puri, Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir, and Shaheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput.
Of the 11 seats, five will be reserved for doctors serving in the Odisha government service, while the remaining six will be available under the All-India quota.
The introduction of these Post-Diploma DNB training opportunities is expected to create greater avenues for doctors to pursue advanced postgraduate training and specialisation while continuing their government service. It will also contribute to increasing the availability of specialist doctors across the state.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling expressed gratitude for the recognition, attributing the development to the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
Mahaling said the continued cooperation and guidance of the Central and State governments in expanding medical education, creating additional training opportunities for doctors and strengthening healthcare delivery are bringing a new ray of hope to Odisha’s health sector.
He further said the availability of Post-Diploma DNB-trained specialists would make it easier to provide specialised medical services at Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres and Sub-Divisional Hospitals across the state.
The recognition of the seats is being viewed as another significant step towards strengthening medical education and specialist healthcare services in Odisha.
