Odisha Govt Doubles Rice Milling Charges

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move aimed at supporting the rice milling industry, the Odisha government has approved a twofold increase in rice milling charges across the state.

Under the revised rates, the milling charge for parboiled rice (Ushuna) has been enhanced from ₹20 to ₹40 per quintal, while the charge for raw rice (Arua) has been increased from ₹10 to ₹20 per quintal.

The decision is expected to provide substantial financial relief to rice millers and strengthen the state’s paddy processing ecosystem. Industry stakeholders have long sought a revision in milling charges in view of rising operational and processing costs.

Officials said the enhanced rates would improve the viability of rice mills and encourage greater efficiency in paddy procurement and processing activities. The move is also expected to benefit the broader agricultural value chain by ensuring smoother handling of paddy and rice stocks.

The state government expressed hope that the revised milling charges would contribute to the growth of Odisha’s rice milling sector and provide fresh momentum to the paddy processing industry.

The decision, approved under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, is being viewed as a major policy intervention for the sector and is expected to have a positive impact on rice millers operating across the state.
