Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Monday inaugurated the first edition of the thematic magazine “Kahuchi Odisha” and launched its web portal in collaboration with the Information and Awareness Trust at the Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra Odissi Research Centre (GKCMORC) in Bhubaneswar.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor described the initiative as more than just a publication, calling it a platform for writers, thinkers, and young minds. He emphasised that such initiatives play a crucial role in enhancing the depth, relevance, and diversity of the Odia language.
Highlighting Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, Dr. Kambhampati said that language, tradition, customs, and history together define the identity of a community. He noted that Odia, one of India’s oldest classical languages, carries centuries of knowledge and intellectual tradition. He further said that Odisha’s festivals, art forms, literature, heritage sites, maritime legacy, natural beauty, and the philosophy of Lord Jagannath collectively reflect its distinct cultural identity.
The Governor stressed that preserving this heritage requires not only appreciation but also active nurturing. He observed that language and culture are living resources that must evolve while retaining authenticity, adding that a strong connection with one’s heritage fosters a meaningful identity.
Appreciating the initiative of the Information and Awareness Trust, the Governor said the title of the first issue, “Odia Asmitara Antahswar”, aptly captures the essence of Odia identity. He also noted the growing reach and relevance of the language through digital platforms.
Calling for greater use of Odia in daily life, the Governor urged families to encourage children to speak, read, and write in Odia with pride.
He emphasised that preserving linguistic identity is a collective responsibility and clarified that it is not directed against any other language, but aimed at strengthening and celebrating the rich heritage of Odia.
