Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Transport Authority (STA) issued 44,746 e-challans against traffic violators on the first day of the ‘Zero Death Week’ campaign aimed at curbing road accidents and promoting road safety across the state.
According to the STA, the enforcement drive was conducted on September 1, with a large number of motorists booked for violating road safety regulations.
Helmetless riding emerged as the most common violation, accounting for 25,282 challans. Authorities also issued 4,160 challans for speeding, while 1,383 motorists were booked for triple riding.
As many as 1,216 e-challans were issued against vehicles being driven without valid insurance, the STA said.
The transport authority urged motorists to comply with road safety regulations and exercise caution while travelling to help prevent accidents and ensure safe journeys.
The ‘Zero Death Week’ campaign is focused on strengthening enforcement against traffic violations and creating greater awareness among road users about responsible driving practices.
