Odisha Police Rolls Out e-Zero FIR System To Fast-Track Cyber Fraud Cases

e-Zero FIR System – Odisha police

Bhubaneswar: In a major initiative aimed at strengthening the fight against cyber-enabled financial crimes, Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania on Wednesday launched the e-Zero FIR System for cyber financial fraud cases.

The technology-driven system is expected to bring greater efficiency, transparency, and speed in handling cyber fraud complaints by enabling faster registration of cases and immediate police intervention. The initiative comes at a time when cyber financial fraud incidents are witnessing a steady rise across the country.

The State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) has integrated the National Cybercrime Helpline 1930 with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) of Odisha to facilitate the automatic generation of e-Zero FIR requests for eligible cyber financial fraud complaints, regardless of jurisdiction.

Under the new mechanism, cyber financial fraud complaints involving amounts of Rs 10 lakh and above, reported through the National Cybercrime Helpline 1930, will automatically generate an e-Zero FIR request in CCTNS. The request will then be forwarded to the Cyber Police Station, Crime Branch, Odisha, for necessary action.

Officials said that after examining the facts and merits of each complaint, the Cyber Police Station may register a regular FIR and initiate an investigation, transfer the complaint to the concerned Cyber Police Station, register a Zero FIR and forward it to the appropriate territorial Cyber Crime Police Station, link it with an existing FIR, or close the request if it does not meet the prescribed criteria.

The integration of the system will eliminate duplicate data entry, speed up the registration process, improve coordination among law enforcement agencies, and help complainants track the progress of their complaints more effectively.

Speaking at the launch, DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania said Odisha Police is committed to using technology to strengthen cybercrime response mechanisms and ensure timely, transparent, and citizen-friendly policing.

He appealed to citizens to immediately report cyber financial fraud cases through the National Cybercrime Helpline 1930, stating that prompt reporting can significantly improve the chances of preventing further losses and recovering defrauded money.

The DGP also congratulated the officers and personnel of the State Crime Records Bureau, Crime Branch, and other stakeholders involved in the successful implementation of the e-Zero FIR System.

The launch marks another step by Odisha Police towards developing a technology-driven policing ecosystem to effectively address emerging cybercrime challenges and provide faster access to justice for citizens.
