Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will distribute corrected copies of school textbooks to all educational institutions after more than 1,000 errors were detected in books for Classes I to VIII, School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond said on Monday.
The move comes after the state ordered an inquiry into the lapses and initiated disciplinary action against officials held responsible.
Addressing the media, Gond said Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had directed an investigation soon after the errors came to light. Based on the inquiry report, four senior officials have been suspended, while disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against six others for alleged negligence.
The minister said the Chief Minister has also approved the implementation of all 14 recommendations of the Singh-led committee constituted to examine the issue. The recommendations are aimed at preventing such lapses in the future and improving the quality of textbook preparation and publication.
Gond said the errors in the textbooks are being rectified, and revised editions will be supplied to schools across the state. District Education Officers (DEOs) have been instructed to ensure that the corrected books reach schools promptly, while teachers will be asked to use only the revised editions in classrooms.
“Our priority is to ensure that students study from error-free textbooks. Corrected copies will be distributed to schools, and DEOs and teachers will guide students using the revised books,” the minister said.
