Bhubaneswar: Daytime temperatures are expected to increase by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next 6 to 7 days in many parts of Odisha, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Meanwhile, theregional weather office has indicated that a low-pressure area formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal is unlikely to intensify into a depression. It may, however, develop into a well-marked low-pressure system in the next 48 hours, though the chance of it becoming a depression remains very low.
Despite this, the weather department has forecast a gradual rise in temperatures across the state. Daytime temperatures are expected to increase by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next 6 to 7 days in many parts of Odisha.
Western Odisha reeled under severe heat on Tuesday. Titlagarh recorded the highest maximum temperature of 40°C, followed by Sambalpur at 39.9°C, Jharsuguda at 39.2°C, and Bhawanipatna at 39°C.
The IMD has predicted that on Wednesday and Thursday, most places in western Odisha are likely to experience temperatures around 40°C. Coastal areas will remain relatively cooler, with maximum temperatures between 35°C and 38°C.On May 15 and 16, western and interior districts of Odisha may touch a scorching 41°C, while temperatures in coastal and southern Odisha are expected to stay below 40°C.
On the other hand, several places in northern Odisha are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by rain till May 16.People, especially in western and interior regions, have been advised to take necessary precautions against the rising heat, stay hydrated, and avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.
