Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds, and rainfall are set to persist across many parts of Odisha for the next three days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The severe heatwave that had briefly subsided due to recent storm activity may return, with temperatures expected to rise after this period.

The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a yellow warning for several districts, forecasting thunderstorms with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph. Affected regions on April 3-4 include Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, and Balasore.

The turbulent weather is expected to continue on April 4-5, impacting districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Keonjhargarh, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, and Dhenkanal.

By April 5-6, thunderstorms with slightly lower wind speeds of 30-40 kmph are expected in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.

Despite the stormy conditions, no major drop in temperature is anticipated. After three days, temperatures are expected to rise by 2-3°C, with some areas—particularly Boudh and Balangir—likely to see temperatures soaring above 40°C.
