Bhubaneswar: You might have seen a lot of car chase scenes of cops running behind the drug smugglers in movies. This reel-life incident turned into a real-life one when Commissionerate Police successfully intercepted a car, which was allegedly transporting cannabis, on the NH-15 between Pitapali and Janla on July 15 night, and arrested two persons following a high-speed chase.
A video of the whole incident was recorded by policemen present in the police vehicle. In the footage, we can see the entire high-voltage chasing incident. The Maruti Ciaz bearing the number OD-02-AL-8656 can be seen being driven at very high speeds on the national highway. Despite several warnings through sirens and horns, the smugglers were not lowering the speed of the car. The video ended with footage of all the two smugglers nabbed by the policemen.
High-speed car chases by police is not common in Odisha. The Special Crime Unit of Commissionerate Police, however, chased the smugglers for a good amount of distance. In the end, the culprits were caught and cannabis weighing 112 kg was recovered from them as well.
The Special Crime Unit sprang into action and launched a thrilling operation after their surveillance efforts pinpointed a suspected vehicle allegedly transporting a substantial quantity of ganja from Phulbani to Jharkhand. As part of Operation ‘Black Smoke’, the special unit trailed the white Maruti Ciaz on the highway near Phulbani triggering a high-octane 7-kilometer chase from Pitapali to the Janla flyover and finally arrested them.
Twin City Police Commissioner, Sanjeeb Panda informed that the Special Crime Unit was previously prepared and three separate teams were engaged to intercept the car.
The viral video meanwhile garnered more than 7,000 views with denizens appreciating Commissionerate Police for the high-speed chase.
