Bhubaneswar: Wildlife authorities in Similipal Tiger Reserve have deployed more than 20 camera traps within a 20-km radius to monitor tigress Zeenat and her four cubs, who are currently moving through the northern part of the reserve.
According to forest officials, the tigress gave birth to the cubs in the southern region of Similipal, a core habitat zone. The family has since been moving across areas that include both the core and buffer zones in the northern division of the reserve.
Officials confirmed that all four cubs are healthy and are being closely monitored using a combination of radio-collar signals and camera trap imagery.
“We have a two-pronged approach to monitoring the tigress and her offspring—radio-collar tracking and camera trap images. We are taking utmost care not to disturb the animal during the monitoring process. From our assessment, the tigress is taking good care of her cubs,” said Ramesh Kumar, Deputy Director (Similipal North).
