Bhubaneswar: More than 57,000 aspirants appeared for the NEET-UG re-examination in Odisha on Sunday amid tight security arrangements.
The re-exam was conducted at over 130 centres across the state, with police personnel deployed outside all examination venues to ensure smooth conduct and prevent any untoward incidents.
The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) re-exam was held following the cancellation of the original examination conducted on May 3 after allegations of a question paper leak surfaced.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the re-examination across 551 cities in India and 14 overseas locations. The test was held in English and 12 Indian languages.
According to the NTA, more than 95,000 examination rooms were equipped with CCTV surveillance to maintain transparency and curb malpractice.
The examination began at 2 pm and concluded at 5:15 pm, with an additional 15 minutes provided to candidates this time.
The state government made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth transportation of candidates to examination centres. Free bus services were operated from various parts of Odisha to help students reach their venues on time.
In a post on X, Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena said the facility was also extended to parents and guardians accompanying candidates. He added that free return transport was arranged for candidates after the examination.
Candidates and their guardians were exempted from road safety enforcement checks for the day to ensure hassle-free movement. Akash Rana, Inspector-in-Charge of the Traffic Police Station in Bhubaneswar, confirmed that special arrangements were made for smooth traffic management.
The NEET-UG examination is conducted for admission to undergraduate medical courses in medical institutions across the country.
