Baripada: The Forest personnel today foiled a poaching attempt in Pithabata range of Similipal sanctuary and arrested a poacher with a country-made gun and explosives.
The accused, Paraw Hembram, had camped in the Baldiha Beat and was waiting to kill wild animals.
Hembram, also known as Kanda, is a resident of Asanbani village in Kuliana block of Mayurbhanj district.
Acting on intelligence input, the team of forest personnel intercepted Hembram last night and apprehended. He was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Baripada today and sent to judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected. A written complaint will be filed at the local police station under the Arms Act, 1959, said an official release.
