Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department, Met Centre Bhubaneswar, has issued a nowcast warning for Puri in view of the ongoing Rath Yatra and resumption of chariot pulling today. Issued at 10:00 am, the weather bulletin remains valid for the next six hours.

As per the forecast, Puri is likely to witness cloudy sky with light rain. Temperature is expected to hover between 27-29°C with humidity at 90-95%.

The Met Centre recorded a temperature of 27.0°C and humidity of 92 per cent at 8:30 am today. The city also received significant rainfall of 21.4 mm between 8:30 am on July 16 and 8:30 am on July 17.

Given the weather conditions, the IMD has urged pilgrims and devotees to remain cautious. People have been advised to stay alert during lightning and thunderstorm activity and to move to a safe, permanent shelter if there is heavy rain, lightning, or strong winds.

The department specifically warned against taking shelter under trees, electric poles, or temporary structures during thunderstorms.

Devotees have also been asked to monitor official weather updates throughout the day as monsoon weather can change quickly. Due to high humidity despite the cloudy conditions, people are advised to stay well hydrated and carry drinking water.
