Bhubaneswar: A retired assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI) was sentenced to one-year rigorous imprisonment by a special vigilance court in Bhawanipatna in a corruption case.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on Tankadhar Budhia, former ASI of Kegaon Police Station in Kalahandi failing which he would undergo a further two months rigorous imprisonment for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act,1988.
The Court further sentenced him to undergo six months of rigorous imprisonment and directed him to pay a fine of Rs 1,000. In default of payment of fine, he would undergo a further one month of rigorous imprisonment for the offence U/s 7 PC Act, 1988.
Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for the stoppage of the pension of Tankadhar Budhi following his conviction.
Shibaram Sahu, former vigilance Inspector, Koraput Division had investigated the case and P. K. Dora, Special PP, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
