Bhubaneswar: A Special POCSO Court in Sambalpur has sentenced Sukant Kishan to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the rape of a minor girl. The heinous crime occurred in 2023 in the Mehulpali police station area, where the accused allegedly assaulted the young victim.
The court, recognizing the gravity of the offence under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, delivered the punishment to ensure justice for the survivor.
Additionally, the judge ordered the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to provide Rs 10 lakh as compensation to the victim, aimed at supporting her rehabilitation and well-being.
The victim’s family and locals have welcomed the verdict.
