Bhubaneswar: Simulia MLA Jyotiprakash Panigrahi resigned from the ruling Biju Janata Dal on Wednesday. Panigrahi sent his resignation letter to the party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
“I do hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of the Biju Janata Dal with immediate effect. I thank you sir in providing me an opportunity to serve the state, Simulia-Khaira Assembly constituency people and the party”, read his resignation letter.
In the 2024 elections, BJD has fielded Subasini Sahu for the Simulia Assembly segment. This left Panigrahi and his supporters in a state of shock. Following the candidature declaration for Simulia assembly segment, Panigrahi started distancing himself from party activities. A dejected Panigrahi decided to snap his ties with the party, said sources.
In a video message, the former minister said, “I am tendering my resignation from the ruling party today. I was associated with the party for a long time. I am grateful to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for giving an opportunity to serve Simulia people.”
