Bhubaneswar: Odisha Higher Education Commissioner-cum-Secretary Arvind Agrawal on Monday directed college principals, university registrars and chairpersons of PG councils to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards violence during student union elections.
Agrawal issued the directive while chairing a meeting to review preparations for the upcoming student union elections, an official release said.
The meeting was attended virtually by principals of colleges, registrars of universities and chairpersons of PG councils across the state.
The Higher Education Secretary stressed the need for ensuring peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections and directed the heads of educational institutions to take necessary measures to prevent violence on campuses.
The authorities were also asked to remain vigilant and ensure that the electoral process is conducted in a safe and conducive academic environment, the release said.
