Bhubaneswar: Three BJP MPs have expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace and alleged poor quality of development works in their respective constituencies and have urged the state government to intervene.
Balangir MP Sangita Kumari Singh Deo, Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi and Berhampur MP Pradeep Kumar Panigrahi have raised concerns over important infrastructure projects in their areas and demanded an investigation and appropriate action.
Balangir MP Sangita Singh Deo has demanded a change of the implementing agency for the Rs 680 crore Sambalpur-Sonepur road project. She pointed out that there has been no tangible progress on the ground in the road widening and strengthening work and the agency has failed to show commitment to complete the work within the stipulated time. She proposed handing over the work to the Sonepur R&B Division for better supervision.
Similarly, Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi has raised strong objections to the inordinate delay in the construction of the Nabarangpur bypass. He said the contract was awarded in December 2024 with a target to complete the work within 24 months, but even after 21 months, physical progress is only about 10 percent.
He demanded a government inquiry into the delay and strict action against the responsible agency or officials.
On the other hand, Berhampur MP Pradeep Panigrahi has raised questions about the quality of materials used in the construction of the Berhampur Gate Bazaar flyover. Citing complaints from local residents, commuters and various organizations, he expressed doubts over the use of low-quality materials. He said the delay in work is causing traffic congestion, dust pollution and losses to traders.
Panigrahi has demanded an independent technical audit to verify the construction materials, structural design and safety standards of the flyover. He also demanded that a specific deadline be fixed for completion of the work and accountability of the contractor and supervising engineers be determined.
The MPs emphasized that focus should not only be on announcing projects or laying foundation stones, but also on completing the works with high quality within the stipulated time.
