Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has confirmed three sunstroke deaths in the state as extreme heat continues to grip the region. The fatalities were reported from Bolangir, Sundargarh, and Subarnapur districts.
According to official data, out of 16 alleged heatwave-related deaths, only three have been confirmed so far. Four cases were negated after post-mortem reports, while the remaining are under investigation by district authorities.
Western Odisha is reeling under intense heat, with temperatures soaring above 43°C in many places. Balangir recently recorded 46°C, while Jharsuguda touched 46°C and several other districts crossed 42-44°C. Daytime highs are expected to remain between 40-43°C in the coming days, with high humidity adding to the discomfort.
The SRC has urged people to avoid direct sun exposure between 11 AM and 3 PM, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions. Schools in several districts have already adjusted timings or closed early due to the heat-wave
