Jajpur: In a tragic incident on Wednesday, a 46-year-old truck driver lost his life after being electrocuted and subsequently crushed by his own vehicle on the Tomka–Mangalpur road under Tomka police station limits in Jajpur district.
The deceased has been identified as Antaryami Sahu (46) of Kahneipal village under Bhuban police station in Dhenkanal district. He was driving the truck owned by S. Ram Murti of Kaliapani township.
According to reports, the mishap occurred near Raighati on the left side of the road at Tungeishuni village in the mining area. Sahu was returning to Kaliapani after unloading chromite at the Jindal factory in Kalinganagar when the truck allegedly hit an electric pole.
The impact caused the pole to snap, and a live electric wire fell onto the truck’s cabin. As electricity passed through the vehicle, Sahu reportedly attempted to escape by jumping out. However, when he held the door handle, he received a severe electric shock and was thrown onto the roadside.
In the chaos, his clothes caught fire, and the truck’s front wheel ran over him. He died on the spot.
The truck’s electrical wiring was completely burnt, and the cabin was partially damaged in the incident.
IIC of Tomka police station Binati Das reached the scene along with her team. The truck was lifted using a crane, after which Sahu’s body was recovered.
Police have registered a case (13/26) in connection with the incident and seized the vehicle. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway, police said.
