Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police arrested a woman and her accomplice for defrauding people on Monday.
The woman, identified as Hansita Abhilipsa (38) and her accomplice Anil Mohanty, were taken into custody for allegedly conning multiple victims.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Swaraj Debata, the duo falsely claimed to be relatives of Pramod Kumar Mishra, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India.
They posed as his daughter and son-in-law and used this fake connection to deceive several people, promising to secure tenders and business deals in exchange for large sums of money.
“A case was filed at Infocity Police Station on December 26, and a preliminary investigation is currently underway. Both individuals have been forwarded to court,” said ADCP Swaraj Debata.
The ADCP also urged anyone who may have fallen victim to their scam to come forward and report it to the police.
“The investigation is still in its early stages, and we will gather more information as the case progresses,” he added.
