Rourkela: In a horrendous incident, two minor girls, aged 7-year-old and 9-year-old, were reportedly gang-raped in a jungle near Birsa Chowk in Rourkela on Saturday evening.

According to the police, the minor two sisters had gone to the market at Birsa Munda Street when two local youth waylaid the girls. They took the girls to a jungle near Birsa Chowk and took turns on them. The incident occurred in the area under the Rourkela Plantsite police limits.

After rescuing the victims and sending them for medical examination, police have started an investigation into the incident. A POCSO case has been filed on the basis of a complaint lodged by a relative of the girls.

“As per the complaint we have received, two girls had gone to the Bisra Chakka area for marketing at around 5.00 pm. Taking the advantage of the girls being alone, two-three youths forcefully took them in an auto-rickshaw and raped them in an isolated location,” informed Rourkela Zone-II DSP Nirmal Chandra Mohapatra.

The police have detained two people for questioning. The police have formed two teams and launched a manhunt to nab the other accused.
