Bhubaneswar: Senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and sitting Nuapada MLA Rajendra Dholakia passed away at the age of 69 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai, on Monday.
Born on November 20, 1956, Dholakia was elected to the Assembly three times, in 2004, 2009, and 2019. Dholakia began his political career as an independent candidate, winning his first term in the Odisha Assembly in 2004. He later joined the BJD and secured three more victories in 2009, 2019, and 2024, emerging as a key leader from western Odisha
According to sources, Dholakia’s mortal remains will be flown to Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, where arrangements have been made to place his body at the Odisha Legislative Assembly. This will allow leaders, colleagues, and the public to pay their last respects to the veteran politician.
Condolences have been pouring in for the veteran politician.
