Balangir: In a deeply disturbing incident from Deogaon block of Balangir district, a young woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by her boyfriend, who then made a video of the act and shared it on social media, triggering outrage across the region.
According to police sources, the accused—identified as Akash Biswal—reportedly lured the woman to a secluded location, where he sexually assaulted her despite her visible protests. He recorded the act and later uploaded the obscene video on Instagram, making it widely accessible. The video has since gone viral, spreading across mobile phones in the region.
The victim’s father filed a formal complaint at the Deogaon police station on Saturday afternoon, demanding immediate action against the accused.
What has added to public anger is the revelation that Akash Biswal is a repeat offender. He had earlier been jailed for allegedly misbehaving with a minor girl in Kalahandi district and was released on bail. Locals and rights activists have questioned how such a person was left unsupervised, allowing him to commit another grave offense.
Following the complaint, Deogaon police have begun a preliminary investigation. Officials have assured that the case will be treated with utmost seriousness and that appropriate action will be taken against the accused under relevant sections of the law, including provisions related to sexual assault and cybercrime.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and raised concerns about the safety of women in the region, especially with regard to online abuse and repeat offenders.
