Sundergarh: In a heart-wrenching case of one-sided love turning deadly, a minor girl who recently appeared for her matriculation examination was allegedly strangled to death by a youth after she repeatedly rejected his advances.
The incident occurred in the Sundergarh Sadar police station limits, casting a pall of grief over the local community. According to police, the young girl was at home this evening when the accused, her unsuccessful boyfriend, arrived on a bike and entered the house. He proposed to her once again, but upon her firm refusal—as she had done multiple times before—he flew into a rage.
In a fit of anger, he allegedly used a knife to slit her throat before fleeing the scene. By the time family members discovered her, the minor was already dead. The family immediately alerted the police. A team from Sundergarh Sadar police station, along with the scientific squad, rushed to the spot to commence investigation.
The body was recovered and sent to the district medical college for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death and gather forensic evidence. Preliminary inquiries pointed to the accused, prompting the police to launch a swift search operation.
Teams raided several locations, including the accused’s village under the Kinjirkela police station area. Acting on leads, officers successfully arrested him from his native village late in the evening. The brutal killing has shocked residents, highlighting the dangers of obsessive behaviour and unrequited love.
Additional SP Krishna Prasad Mishra, along with SDP and other senior officers including Nirmal Kumar Mahapatra, visited the crime scene to supervise the probe and ensure thorough investigation. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law, including provisions for murder and crimes against minors. Further interrogation of the accused is underway to establish the full sequence of events.
