Bhadrak: The body of a youth who went missing after jumping into the Salandi River while shooting a social media Reel was recovered by Fire Services personnel after an extensive search operation on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Mithun Nayak, who, along with two others—Himanshu Sekhar Nayak and a friend—had reportedly jumped from Santhia Bridge under the Puruna Bazar police limits in Bhadrak district while filming a video.
According to police sources, the trio, all labourers from Keonjhar district currently staying in Bhadrak, were attempting to create a Reel by diving into the river from the bridge. Himanshu jumped first, followed by Mithun. While Himanshu managed to swim back to safety, Mithun went missing in the strong currents.
On being informed, police and Fire Services teams rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. After more than two and a half hours of continuous efforts, Fire Services personnel recovered Mithun’s body from the river.
The body has been sent to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital for postmortem examination.
Meanwhile, police have arrested the youth who was filming the video at the time of the incident. Further investigation into the case is underway.
