Baripada: A horrific case of school ragging has come to light at Basipitha SSD High School Khunta police station in Mayurbhanj district where a sixth-class student was brutally tortured by his senior classmates, leaving him with severe injuries.

The father of the victim student lodged a complaint at Khunta police station, based on which police launched an investigation.

As per the complaint, the incident occurred after the victim reported his seniors for drinking alcohol in the school hostel to the headmaster. In a fit of rage, the ninth-class students locked Behera in a room and subjected him to physical torture, including beating him with an iron rod, cutting his hand with a blade, and pouring salt on the wound.

The senior students threatened to kill him if he revealed the matter to anyone about the incident. He was scared and didn’t tell anyone. When he expressed his unwillingness to go to school, his father inquired about the matter. Finally, the victim narrated the ordeal, prompting his father to move police station. The incident took place last February; however, the school authorities had kept the matter secret.
