Bhubaneswar: Vigilance officials today arrested a policeman in Ganjam district for taking bribe from a complainant to help him in a case earlier registered at Khalikote police station.
Manas Kumar Rout, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Police of Bhejiput outpost under Khalikote police station was caught red-handed by Vigilance officials while he was demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from a person to help him in a case earlier registered in Khalikote police station.
Vigilance officials have recovered the bribe money from accused Rout and seized it.
Following the trap, Vigilance officials have launched searches at Rout’s rented house and office room at Bhejiput, Khalikote and his Government quarter at Puri.
The anti-corruption agency has registered a case under section 7 of PC Act, 1988 as amended by PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 against Rout and further investigation is underway.
