Bhubaneswar: Amid the prevailing intense heat wave conditions, several districts in western Odisha have announced temporary school holidays to protect students from extreme temperatures.
In Nuapada district, the Collector has directed all schools to remain closed from April 20 to April 22. The order applies to all educational institutions from Class 1 to higher secondary level, including Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAVs) and private schools.
However, the supplementary examinations for Class V and Class VIII will still be conducted as scheduled, but only in the morning hours from 7 am to 9 am to avoid peak heat.
Similarly, the Sambalpur district Collector has also announced school holidays from April 20 to April 22 due to the severe heat conditions. All schools, including government and private institutions, will remain closed during these three days.
In Jharsuguda district, the closure period is slightly longer. All schools from Sishu Vatika (pre-school) to Class 12 will remain shut from April 20 to April 23. The District Education Officer has issued instructions to all school authorities on the direction of the Collector.
The decisions have been taken as a precautionary measure to safeguard the health and well-being of students amid soaring day temperatures.
